Concrete for Patios and Walkways: There’s A Whole New World Out There!

 

It used to be that patios and walkways were standard grey concrete, possibly with a broom finish if you wanted to get really fancy. Nowadays the world of concrete has certainly changed and therefore so have the average walkway and / or patio. We’ve had the opportunity to do a variety of stamped concrete patterns as well as dyed concrete options, and homeowners are loving it! So what exactly are the types of options you’re looking at as far as your new patio, walkway or even driveway…here is a brief breakdown:

Stamped Concrete: The question on everyone’s minds: why didn’t they think of this sooner! Poured just as a standard concrete patio would be, stamped concrete then requires the contractor to go back in and basically stamp the concrete with some sort of brick, cobblestone or natural stone pattern. While certainly it is more expensive than your standard pour and broom patio, stamped concrete gives a richness and depth to the look of the concrete that you just can’t get without it. Dyed Concrete: Yes, concrete now comes in colors. From brick red, to golden tones, to dark browns, you can accent the outside of your home perfectly with a dyed concrete product for your patio. It no longer has to be about plain old grey. Go crazy, let your walkway tell a story, give it some color, some energy, some life.

Exposed Aggregate: Now here’s where your patio or walkway can really get creative. Using an exposed aggregate method, colorful stone or some other such material is added to the concrete mix. In the curing process, some of the concrete is essentially “washed” away exposing the aggregate added. You can add any color stone you want and be left with a stunning new patio or walkway when all is complete.
